1st in the State of Michigan!
Creek View Lodge has successfully implemented and been approved by the State of Michigan for Electronic Medication Administration Records program (EMAR).
On May 1st, 2010, Creek View Lodge became the first Assisted Living in the State of Michigan to successfully convert all its resident records to “EMAR”! Over the last year, Randy Shepard, Quality Control Administrator at Creek View Lodge has worked and coordinated this huge accomplishment. First, Mr. Shepard researched software’s available to the Assisted Living industry for the perfect fit for Licensed AFC (Adult Foster Care) facilities. Secondly, Mr. Shepard researched and found a pharmacy to partner with the software for seamless prescription integration! In November of 2009 Mr. Shepard introduced HomeTown Pharmacy (a Michigan Company) and Extended Care Professional (based in Wisconsin) and at that time the two signed an exclusive contract to work together here in Michigan.
Creek View Lodge became the “BETA” test site for the Michigan customization to be worked thru and with time and dedication of the new team (Hometown, ECP and Mr. Shepard) the system was successfully launched in March, 2010.
Currently, Creek View Lodge staff members can pass medications, record resident chart details, provide treatments and vitals all recorded electronically for easy recall. The owners of Creek View Lodge are ecstatic about the new programs as it allows the staff (resident aides) to spend 38% more time with the residents caring for and doing activities with rather than doing paperwork! All outside doctors, nurses and care givers that care for these residents are also logging in and able to review the ENTIRE chart in minutes, saving them time catching up on the history of the resident.
The early predictions are the residents at Creek View Lodge will have better care, more timely follow-ups and much more interaction with staff to improve overall health and well-being. Kudu’s to Mr. Shepard’s team and Creek View Lodge for paving the way and pushing this forward to get the approval for this system with the State of Michigan. This is exactly the entrepreneurial spirit needed to take Michigan forward with technology, especially in the medical field!
